Introduction to Quilting

Course Length: 5 Weeks
Class Time: 2 hours per session
Project Goal: Students will use a pattern to help built skills while completing 9 quilt blocks during class. There may be some fun sewing required at home.

| Skill Details: | Learner will be introduced to the functions of a sewing machine, learn best practices using tools made for making quilts, and tips and tricks to completing the perfect square. Course Length: 5 Weeks Class Time: 2 hours per session Project Goal: Students will use a pattern to help built skills while completing 9 quilt blocks during class. Homework maybe required if you are not able to complete blocks in class At the completion of the fifth class, students will assemble all nine squares into a small quilt top, with the option to attend an additional 6th class on layering the quilt pieces and finishing the quilt by quilting it and attaching the binding. --- |
| Materials Included: | Sewing machines are available if needed. We want everyone to be able to learn. |
| Requirements: | Fabric Requirements. We will be utilizing Bella Solids for this project. You will need 5 different colors for the blocks along with a background/sashing/binding. There will be kits available for you to choose from or you may choose your own color scheme. If you choose to use machines at the shop you will be required to purchase thread and 5 bobbins. Please bring a rotary cutter and mat, rulers, pins or clips which ever you prefer. There are supplies at the shop, but if you have your own it is a good idea to bring them with you. Come ready to laugh, learn, and have fun. And hopefully fall in love with the art of making quilts. |

| Instructor Bio: | Amy Bowles is the Public Health Division Director and Community Health Board Administrator for Beltrami County. With a passion for serving and empowering others, Amy leads with vision and isn’t afraid to dream big. Her commitment to connecting with the community is what brought her to Bemidji, where she feels blessed to serve the people of Beltrami County. Beyond her work in public health, Amy finds joy in quilting, seeing it as another opportunity to build connections and positively impact the health and well-being of her community. Amy has been married to her husband, Jason, for nearly 26 years, and have three children. When she’s not sewing, Amy enjoys spending time outdoors and bringing laughter to those around her. |
