Introduction to Quilting



Course Length: 5 Weeks
Class Time: 2 hours per session
Project Goal: Students will complete four 12” quilt blocks during class and five on their own as homework. At the completion of the fifth class, students will assemble all nine squares into a small quilt top, with the option to attend an additional 6th class on layering the quilt pieces and finishing the quilt by quilting it and attaching the binding.


Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: Learner will be introduced to the functions of a sewing machine, learn best practices using tools made for making quilts, and tips and tricks to completing the perfect square. Materials Included: Sewing machines are available if needed. We want everyone to be able to learn.
Requirements: ¼ yard of 10 different fabrics. These will be purchased after the first class. One spool of white thread (also purchased after the first class). Come ready to laugh, learn, and have fun. And hopefully fall in love with the art of making quilts.
Instructor: Amy Bowles
Instructor Bio: Amy Bowles is the Public Health Division Director and Community Health Board Administrator of Beltrami County. Amy has a passion for serving and empowering others and isn’t afraid to dream big. Her desire to lead and connect with the community is what brought Amy to Bemidji. Amy feels blessed to have the opportunity to serve the people of Beltrami County and hopes by sharing her love for making quilts will be just another opportunity to connect and make a positive impact in the health of the community. Amy and her husband Jason of almost 26 years have three children. In addition to sewing, Amy enjoys being outdoors and making others laugh.
